Today, Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun posts on its Weibo account a reminder that the Redmi Note 7 supports QuickCharge 4 up to 18W. In conversation, the CEO replies in a post that the upcoming flagship from the company will support better fast charging. With that said, we can expect up to 24W charging on the Xiaomi Mi 9.
That’s not all! Xiaomi may implement a 32W fast charging with Mi 9. Well, we are still away from the release, and a lot of the things may change by the launch. The 32W fast charging is new and matches the QuickCharge 5 standards. The new charging technology shifts from the current Dual Charge (i.e. two charge controllers) to Triple. With that said, it will bring the power paths from two (QC4) to three (QC5).
The Snapdragon 855 SoC officially supports QC4+ only. Well, the Mi 9 may not get the Quick Charge in that case. Still, QC5 support may be hiding behind a firmware update, there aren’t many S855 phones out there.
