Xiaomi announced the Mi Play in China back on Monday, and Oh Boy! the handset looks drop-dead gorgeous for its price tag. The smartphone is not identical to any other Xiaomi budget series smartphone in the market. In fact, the Mi Play from the company is the first handset that comes along with a waterdrop-style display notch. The smartphone comes in a gradient finish at the back. Its the first time that Xiaomi is implementing a glass sandwiched design on a budget smartphone.
Xiaomi Mi Play Pricing & Availability
The Mi Play is available in 4/64GB configuration alone, and the company asks CNY 1,099 (roughly Rs. 11,100) for this configuration. The handset is available in Black, Dream Blue, and Twilight Gold color options along with a gradient finish. Interestingly, Xiaomi is offering 10GB of free data per month for the first 12 months of purchase. For now, the handset makes its way to China only, with no details about its launch in other markets. You can purchase the handset in Xiaomi’s offline stores in China from 10 am on December 25.
Xiaomi Mi Play Specifications
The specifications on the Mi Play are decent for its offering, but there is nothing remarkable. The smartphone powers a not so powerful MediaTek Helio P35 SoC with an octa-core CPU coupled with IMG GE8320 GPU. The Xiaomi play comes in 4/64GB configuration alone and runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with MIUI 10 on top of it. On the front of the smartphone is a massive 5.84-inch full-HD+ (1080×2280 pixels) display along with a 19:9 aspect ratio.
The display on the Mi Play sports a waterdrop style notch that features an 8MP selfie shooter camera. The smartphone bears a dual camera setup on the rear. The primary camera on the Mi Play is a 12-megapixel shooter with a f/2.2 aperture, while the coupling camera is a 2-megapixel secondary sensor for depth sensing.
Rest, the handset comes along with 3,000 mAH battery and has an eMMC 5.1 storage that is expandable via microSD card (up to 256GB). The handset has 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS/ A-GPS, and a rear fingerprint reader. The smartphone measures 47.76×71.89×7.8mm and include an onboard accelerometer, ambient light, geomagnetic, and gyroscope.
