After releasing the official teasers on Amazon yesterday, the Samsung Galaxy A8 Star is now official in India. The strange thing about this smartphone is it’s naming scheme. For China, Samsung calls it Galaxy A9 star and it is available for purchase since last month. For some reasons, Samsung calls that Galaxy A8 Star in India.
PRICING AND AVAILABILITY
The handset is visible on Amazon India, with actual sales starting on August 27. For pricing, it will cost you INR 34,990. Have in mind one thing, that you are paying so much premium for a midrange smartphone from Samsung.
The smartphone has a 16MP primary camera sensor with a f/1.7 aperture with decent low-light capabilities. The secondary camera lens is a 24MP lens with the same f/1.7 aperture. For selfies, the smartphone has a whopping 24MP camera sensor with f/2.0 aperture.
The Samsung Galaxy A8 Star is a 6.3-inch smartphone that comes in an 18:9 aspect ratio display. It is a Super AMOLED Infinity Display with 80% screen-to-body ratio and has 1080×2220 resolution count. Under the hood, the smartphone powers the Snapdragon 660 chipset with octa-core capabilities. That is the same SoC we get to see in the Mi A2 that costs nearly half the price value. The smartphone bears 6Gigs of RAM and 64Gigs of expandable storage.
The handset runs on Android 8.0 Oreo with Samsung Experience UI 9.0 on it’s top. Besides that, the smartphone packs a massive 3,700 mAh battery to backup all of your daily tasks. The whole task supports quick charge 2.0, that can fill up the battery through a 15W USB-C wall charger. For biometrics, the smartphone has a fingerprint scanner on back. There is always an option of facial scan for unlocking if you don’t want to use the fingerprint option.
Bixby is still present and is accessible through a dedicated button on the left side. Sadly, this button cannot be re-mapped to perform some other task.
