The latest report going around is that Samsung is looking to equip its future A-series smartphones in 2019 with in-display fingerprint readers. It’s another way for the company to compete with the Chinese affordable handsets.

Samsung will equip its upcoming A series with in-display fingerprint readers. The screen unlock is becoming a new trend among smartphones, and Samsung is looking to bring cheap alternatives to technology.

Samsung confirms to bring in-display FP sensor to A-series phones

Of late, Samsung is changing its smartphones strategies by introducing new technologies on the midrangers and then improving them on flagships. Note that the A-series will not feature the ultrasonic under-display sensors from Qualcomm. We assume that the company will use the optical sensors instead.

Optical readers have some significant issues. Firstly, they tend to do 2D-mapping that is less secure than the 3D-mapping on the ultrasonic sensor. These sensors are less accurate and are generally inconsistent with the results. It’s understandable given the price point, of course. Reportedly, China’s Aegis Technology will take care of Samsung’s order.
