Today, OnePlus has officially confirmed some of the myths about the upcoming OnePlus 6T. And, this includes the myths for in-display fingerprint reader and lack a 3.5mm headphone jack. It turns out these two are connected.
Further, in a lengthy interview, the co-founder of OnePlus and CEO Pete Lau says that removing the 3.5mm jack was necessary in order to free up some space for the in-display fingerprint scanner.
We think that the justification is just like Apple made for removing headphone jack to make room for the Taptic Engine. Anyway’s according to Lau this was one of the most difficult decisions for the entire OnePlus team to make. Now, Carl believes that the Screen Unlock is so efficient that it will make you forget your grievances about the jack.
OnePlus was planning this technology to come up with the OnePlus 5T. But, somehow it did not live up to the expectations of Carl. So, it took up to this generation of OnePlus for the technology to prove itself to be mature.
Further, the Screen Unlock features add 0.45mm to the thickness of the phone. Carl also confirms the lack of Wireless charging that generates heat. Lau says that once fast wireless charging is possible without generating heat, OnePlus will reconsider. So, the OnePlus 6T will continue to use the fast and efficient dash chargers for charging.
Now, we assume that the in-display fingerprint reader will add another $20 to the bill of the 6T. Further, the smartphone will not come with waterproofing support. And, Carl says adding $30 more to the phone is unreasonable for the few of them who will go swimming with their phone.
