Apple MacBook Air finally gets the iFixit treatment, and Oh Boy! this is the most beautiful insight I’ve ever seen in a laptop. To recall the new MacBook Air comes along with thinner bezels, force touch trackpad, 8th generation CPU’s, and Touch ID. The MacBook Ait at $1200 will surely get a massive hit in the market at $1,200 entry price for an OS X laptop. So let’s look at it from the inside, courtesy of iFixIt.
The insides of the new MacBook Air looks stupendous, but the repairability scores get a low 3/10 score. The ultra-portable light chassis doesn’t have enough room to make easy repairs on the MacBook Air, and that’s a no surprise for MacBooks.
Interestingly, the repairs show the mechanism behind the force touch trackpad to registers clicks even at its extremities. Well, the whole magic is under the glass.
The all-new MacBook Air 2018 is using the 7W Intel Core-i5Y processor that is the best choice for the laptops with fanless designs. But, to increase performance even further, Apple has put a tiny little fan to ensure no thermal throttling whatsoever. Well, the new Air will perform better especially in demanding tasks like photo and video editing. The processor has no major difference when you come from the 12-inch MacBook’s 5W CPU. But, in comparison, we’ve got the advantage of two USB-C ports on MacBook Air.
Note that the new MacBook Air 2018 is not difficult to open as per the iFixit guide, but there are a few hardships. The main difficulty is to obtain access to the keyboard that is integrated into the top case. Well, it requires all the other parts to rip off, to gain access to the keyboard.
