LG V40 ThinQ with Five Cameras goes official


LG V40 ThinQ is finally here. And, this is the first smartphone in the world that lets you take an ultra wide-angle shot or zoom in. The Smartphone features three cameras on the back. And, that ranges from From the 107° ultra wide lens, through the 78° main lens to the 45° telephoto lens. The LG V40 ThinQ offers a whopping 3x Optical zoom, similar to the Huawei P20 Pro.

Further, the main camera on the LG V40 ThinQ is a regular 12MP sensor with f/1.7 aperture. The sensor size is big at 1.4µm pixels, and this is significantly larger than the 1.0µm pixels of the LG G7 and V35. The larger aperture size and OIS account for a better low light performance. And, lastly, this is the first time that LG camera is offering a Dual Pixel autofocus.

Well, the remaining two cameras allows you to take wide and zoom in shots. There is a 12MP telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture coupled with a 16MP ultra wide-angle module.

The complete setup offers a digital image stabilization, HDR recording, and more. The Video mode on the LG V40 ThinQ offers 4K at 60fps and there’s a 1080p at 240fps mode for cool slow-mo shots. One interesting feature on this smartphone is a Triple shot feature. The feature takes time to calculate, but when it does, it allows you to create a video or a GIF out of the three images. The tech behind this is the AI engine that recognizes the faces and guides you to a perfect “rule of thirds” composition.


Departing from the camera features, the V40’s, 6.4” FullVision display is gorgeous to look at. It is a QHD+ OLED panel that supports HDR10 and has a taller 19.5:9 aspect ratio. And it has a notch. Inside the notch, there is an earpiece and two selfie cameras. The main camera is an 8MP (f/1.9, 80°) camera coupled with another 5MP (f/2.4, 90) camera sensor. The smartphone offers studio lighting portraits that sound very similar to the iPhone studio lightning mode.

Further, the LG V40 ThinQ is light at 169g, and it has an IP68 rating and MIL-STD-810G certification. The headphone jack on this smartphone is still alive with a 32-bit QuadDAC to provide a sonic boost. The BoomBox speaker tech is present on this smartphone but still no dual speakers to be seen on this one.

The LG V40 ThinQ is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset coupled with 6GB RAM. There is 64GB internal storage present on this smartphone and it is expandable via MicroSD slot. The smartphone runs Android 8.1 Oreo with LG’s custom launcher on top,

Features like 3,330 mAH battery with fast wireless charging are present on this smartphone. The battery on this smartphone does support QuickCharge 3.0. The smartphone will be available from October 18 in Aurora Black (polished finish) and Moroccan Blue (sandblasted). And, it will have a starting price of $900.
