MediaTek made the Helio P60 chipset official in February 2018. And, this new chipset turned out to be popular with the Chinese manufacturing companies. Now, the next generation Helio P70 is official and it promises 10-30% boost in AI tasks and a 13% improvement on general tasks.
The chipset is an octa-core SoC, and it comes along with the same 12nm process. Also, the chipset will have a support for a Mali-G72 GPU. Besides, both the CPU and the GPU now runs at a higher clock speed. To be more precise the four big cores, Cortex-A73, now run at 2.1GHz, and the Mali-G72 MP3 GPU now runs at 900MHz.
The MediaTek’s Helio P70 chipset is an AI-focused chipset with a Neural Processing Unit (NPU), which will offer higher performance. Well, it consumes up to 35% less power in popular games in comparison to the Helio P60. Besides, in comparison to the last generation, the Energy Aware Scheduling+ on Helio P70 is a thermal management solution that promises to lower operating temperature by up to 4.5°C.
Further, the chipset supports triple ISPs. Well, this means that you can either use a 24+16MP dual camera or a single 32MP camera with this chipset. The chipset hardware allows Bokeh at 24fps and supports low-power electronic image stabilization.
Also, there is a support up to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM (1,800MHz). For connectivity, the SoC supporst features like Dual VOLTE, and Band 71 (600MHz), which is popular in the US. The Helio P70 comes with a support for UFS 2.1 storage.
