The new iPad Pro 11 and iPad Pro 12.9 looks Gorgeous. While the overall experience of using these iPads is already top-notch, the second generation of Apple Pencil adds more value to it. Now, the question is, can we use Apple Pencil 2 with the current generation of the iPads and vice-versa? Well, the answer is, the new stylus isn’t compatible with the old tablets.
Apple is not be put on blame for this, as the new Apple Pencil charges wirelessly from the new iPad Pros. If we look back at the generation one of the Apple Pencil, they used to get plugged into the Lightning port. The second-gen Pencil also attaches to the tablet with magnets, which triggers a pairing process.
The other difference is the double tap features on the Apple Pencil second generation. The double tap actions on the new Apple Pencil can switch between applications. Well, the old iPad Pro’s are not compatible with this new technology. Also, note that the second-generation Apple Pencil is more expensive too. It costs $130/€135 compared to $100/€100 for the original.
