Apple iPad Pro 11 iPad Pro 12.9 (2018) got official two weeks ago along with the Apple Pencil 2.0. While the new Apple Pencil 2.0 was incompatible with the older models, it comes with a brand new wireless charging system.

Interestingly, the new wireless charging system in the Apple Pencil 2.0 is not compatible with Qi charging. Well, Apple makes use of Qi chargers on the iPhones, Apple Watch, and even the AirPods, so the transition to a proprietary charger is a bit of surprise for us.

The new Apple Pencil 2.0 for the iPad Pros doesn't support Qi charging

The new generation of Apple Pencils works on two magnet arrays known as Halbach array. The pencil has one such array on either side of the charging coil. The charging coils then line up with the magnet arrays on the iPad to induce wireless charging on them.
