Recently we’ve got to see Oppo successfully testing 5G modems in their handsets. Now, another BBK Electronics company has reached out a milestone towards delivering 5G-ready smartphones. Vivo’s first 5G ready smartphone is none other than their current vivo NEX S flagship. After modifying the modem on the vivo NEX S flagship with a Qualcomm’s X50 modem, it has become company’s first ever 5G handset.
The whole setup on the vivo NEX S includes a non-standalone architecture. The architecture combines the LTE, and New Radio antennas, those are based on 3GPP release 15 standards. Vivo’s test has completed their first phase of the protocol including tests with Keysight UXM 5G signaling.
Further, the vivo NEX S is entering the IODT tests with 5G infrastructure and networking. Vivo says that their first commercial 5G smartphone will be available by 2019.
We know that China Mobile and Qualcomm are partners for the 5G rollout, and the first ever 5G connections will be seen in Vivo’s own homeland.
