Today, HMD has unveiled the Nokia 8.1, and this is the real successor for the global Nokia 7 plus. Well, this is not particularly a new device, and it is the same Nokia X7 with its new name for the Western market.

Interestingly, Nokia also unveils that the handset will be available globally in mid-December at a price of €400. The handset will see its first launch in the Middle East market. Pre-orders in the UAE start tomorrow (at AED 1,500), the phone will be available on shelves on December 15. It will reach the rest of the Middle East on December 20.

Nokia 8.1 Specifications…

The Nokia 8.1 is a dual sim smartphone. The smartphone is built around a 6.18-inch PureDisplay with 1080 x 2280 Pixels resolution. The smartphone shares the same 18.7:9 aspect ratio as other Nokia smartphones and comes with a notch. The display is HDR10 compatible and has a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection on top. Further, the display has support for real-time HDR conversion to SDR videos. Also, the display comes with 86.5 percent screen-to-body ratio and 2.5D curved glass.

The Nokia 8.1 comes with a mid-range Snapdragon 710 SoC paired with either 4 or 6GB of RAM. The smartphone comes with 32GB or 64GB of internal storage, and the storage is expandable via a microSD card slot. The Nokia 8.1 packs a decent 3,500 mAh battery. And, it has support for fast charging via the USB-C connector on the bottom of the device. Further, it takes just 30 minutes to get a 50% charge on this smartphone. Also, Nokia provides an 18W fast charger inside the box. Lastly, the Nokia 8.1 has an Aluminum 6000 series shell with a glass at it’s back. But, there is no sign of wireless charging available on this handset.

The Nokia 8.1 comes with a dual camera setup on the rear. The primary camera is a 12MP shooter with a f/1.8 aperture and large 1.4-micron pixels with dual-pixel autofocus and OIS available. Well, the pairing camera is a 13-megapixel secondary camera sensor at the back with fixed focus.

The Selfie shooter on this smartphone has to offer a 20-megapixel camera with f/2.0 aperture, AI enhancements, and fixed focus. Nokia has to offer their unique Bothie feature to utilize both front and rear cameras simultaneously.

Nokia 8.1 Connectivity

For connectivity, the handset includes 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi ac, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and GPS/ A- GPS integration to it. Sensors on board include an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, gyroscope, and proximity sensor. The phone measures 154.8×75.76×7.97 mm and weighs 178 grams.
