After the Android Dev Summit took place and Google’s Project Treble team demonstrating Generic System Image (GSI) engine running on various phones, Google has something to announce. Google is now announcing that all the handsets that will ship with Android Pie out of the box, will be Treble-compliant for faster upgrades.
The main reason behind this is to push Android updates faster to compete with Apple. We may see a major portion of Android devices running on Android pie with this initiative.
Note that the GSI will be built in the latest AOSP source code from google. Well, all the new builds will include the bug fixes, that manufacturers will report. We’ve seen a lot of companies already implementing this, but the GSI is a step ahead.
The Project Treble team will push the engine for early access to future Android platforms. This will allow for the app development and validation before the device is ready to switch on the Android Pie.
